"I would highly recommend volunteering to all CUH Staff and students - you’ll come back feeling totally refreshed and extremly motivated." Lesley Wood, Perioperative Care Nurse Consultant, CUH
Princess Marina Hospital, Gaborone, Botswana
Since 2007 we have been partnering on an exciting Link with the Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone which is Botswana’s largest referral hospital and the main teaching hospital for the country’s only medical school.
Botswana is in southern Africa. While it has one of the world's highest known rates of HIV/AIDS infection it also has progressive and comprehensive programmes for dealing with the disease. Its wider healthcare system is well established, enabling it to maximise the benefits that partnering can bring.
"There's such a lot we can do, at the moment we're just scratching the surface." Debbie Jankowski, Specialist Ophthalmic Nurse
Our achievements so far
In summer 2009 we launched a joint project with the Princess Marina Hospital to develop a nationwide diabetic eye disease screening project within the WHO VISION 2020 campaign. This project is part funded by the Standard Chartered Bank Seeing in Believing Campaign and is a VISION 2020 Links programme.
With the Ministry of Health of Botswana, we are developing training in healthcare leadership and management and facilities management.
We are also working with the new School of Medicine at the University of Botswana.
