Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen

An Evening of JAzz with kenny Ball

Sunday 29 June 2008

The Friends of Addenbrooke’s annual summer event at the Old Vicarage in Grantchester, courtesy of Lord and Lady Archer, was a resounding success. As one of the heights of the summer calendar, this year Lady Archer opened the grounds of her home to 350 people, with entertainment provided by legendary jazz musician, Kenny Ball, with his jazzmen.

Kenny Ball gave his time free to say thank you for the care his wife received at Addenbrooke’s Hospital when she was taken seriously ill last year.

The show took place in a stunning marquee in the grounds of the Old Vicarage offered to the Friends of Addenbrooke’s by Lady Archer for use following her 42nd wedding anniversary party. Additionally Mark Donachy, landlord of the Red Lion Histon, generously provided a pay bar for the event.

Michele Satchwell, Chairman of the Friends of Addenbrooke’s said:
”It was a resounding success; the atmosphere was set as the first chord was blown and Kenny and his Jazzmen did not disappoint. As well as playing the music he is well known for, he also played tributes to Humphrey Lyttelton and Louis Armstrong. He had us all singing and dancing the night away, a truly memorable evening.”

This wonderful event raised over £9,000 and all proceeds will help provide physiotherapy equipment for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly at Addenbrooke’s.
