Cancer Care Funds raised in memory of Margaret Butchers
24 July 2009
A concert held by Soroptimist International of Cambridge in memory of dedicated Soroptomist member and Salvation Army volunteer, Margaret Butchers, raised £1000 towards vital equipment to help treat cervical cancer at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Margaret, former Voluntary Services Manager, at Addenbrooke’s, sadly passed away in December 2007 after a long battle with cancer. The money raised in her memory has been used towards the purchase of additional equipment to help deliver a type of radiotherapy for treating gynaelogical cancers known as brachytherapy.
Margaret’s friends and family were delighted to present the equipment to the team in the radiotherapy department at Addenbrooke’s (picture below).
Rachel Kirby, Superintendent Therapy Radiographer, said: “We are very grateful for the donation of £1000 towards the purchase of additional brachytherapy equipment used for treating patients with cervical and endometrial cancers. This has proved to be invaluable by enabling us to deliver treatment to more patients during each brachytherapy session”
