18 August 2009

Actress, Rebecca Mader, who has starred in Sky One’s Lost and The Devil Wears Prada is supporting the Pink Rose appeal to raise funds for breast cancer research at the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit (based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital) this October – breast cancer awareness month.

Cambridge-born Rebecca, who also stars alongside Ewan McGregor in the forthcoming film The Men Who Stare at Goats, has kindly supported the appeal since 2007. The Pink Rose appeal invites people to host their own dinner, lunch or drinks party for family and friends and ask their guests to ‘pay for their supper’ by making a donation to the appeal.

Over recent years people from across the Eastern Region have hosted their own Pink Rose events to raise over £300,000 towards building and equipping the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit, and to support the Unit’s on-going breast cancer research programme.

Research projects currently undertaken at the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit will result in improvements into patient management within the next five years.

This year we hope to raise £50,000 to support the 40,000 British women who are diagnosed with breast cancer annually.

Rebecca said: "You can join hundreds of others in this year's Pink Rose appeal by holding your own special party for friends and family and ask them to make a donation to breast cancer research.Breast Cancer affects over 40,000 women in the UK every year, and more people than ever are surviving thanks to early diagnosis and improved treatment. Please join me in supporting a fantastic cause."
