Mount Kilimanjaro Trek

What you've been up to

We're very grateful for all your help! Here are some of the things you got up to in 2007:

Sabrina’s Skydive

Sabrina Sampson, a former leukaemia patient at Addenbrooke’s, raised over £20,000 by doing a skydive to fund the hospital’s ongoing research into paediatric leukaemia.

Peter Bennett’s Beard Shave

After sporting a beard for almost 36 years, Peter Bennett took the plunge and had it all shaved off in aid of the Breast Unit, raising a staggering £10,000. Peter said, “Too many of my very close friends have been affected by breast cancer so I decided to support the cause and shave off my beard...in public!”

Claire and Andy’s 200 Mile Bike Ride

Claire and Andy Barrow cycled 200 miles from Norwich to Eccleshall to raise money for the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit to say thank you for the treatment Claire’s father received while in their care. They added to their funds by asking that guests at their wedding donate to the Unit instead of giving presents, raising a total of  £1,700 for the Unit

Walking the Cambridge Backs

Staff from the Cardiology Practice Development Unit based on Ward D5 held a sponsored walk along the Cambridge Backs. They aimed to raise £5,000 to help finance their re-accreditation as a Practice Development Unit (PDU). A PDU is set up to develop practice over and above the daily running of the ward, to advance the effectiveness of healthcare services and seek excellence in clinical practice.

Five Year Old’s Mini-triathlon

Ben Hardwick, a five year old patient, undertook a mini-triathlon to raise money for toys on Ward D2. Born with spina bifida Ben has endured several operations on his back at Addenbrooke’s but has gone on to raise £4,000 for a Playstation 3 and other toys for the children on the ward.

Trekking Patagonia

Cheryl Sayers, a tireless fundraiser for Addenbrooke’s Oncology Centre has done it again! Having trekked Mount Kilimanjaro in 2006, this year Cheryl took on the Patagonia Hike for TomoTherapy research. Cheryl raised £2,000.
